Every fall my families ask me the same question: what should we wear for our photos?

I put together this simple guide with the colors, textures, and little details that photograph best in fall light.

Whether we are meeting at a park in Bellingham or catching golden hour in Seattle, these tips will help you feel confident in front of the camera.

Start with a color palette

Cream, camel, rust, olive, burgundy. Warm earthy tones glow in fall light.

Coordinate, don't match

Choose 2 to 3 colors for the whole family. Different shades of the same palette look natural together.

Texture is everything

Knits, denim, linen, wool. Texture adds depth that flat fabrics just can't.

Skip the distractions

Neon colors, big logos, and tiny busy patterns pull attention away from faces.

For the little ones

Comfort first. One outfit is plenty, and bring a backup just in case.
