With summer finally arriving in the Pacific Northwest, the outdoors becomes the perfect backdrop for family portraits. But I know what many parents are thinking: How am I going to keep my kids happy and relaxed for photos?
I’ll let you in on a secret: my favorite photos aren't the ones where everyone is looking at the camera and smiling perfectly. They are the moments where a toddler is giggling, a baby is exploring, and you are simply enjoying your family.
Here are three ways we can work together to ensure your session is effortless and full of pure joy.
Tip 1: Let Go of the "Perfect Smile" The more we pressure a child to 'cheese' for the camera, the more they tend to shut down. Instead, I focus on play. When we let kids be kids, those genuine, soulful smiles happen naturally. Trust me to find them!
Tip 2: Favorite Toys and Snacks Feel free to bring along a few favorite (non-messy) snacks and a favorite toy or 'lovey.' These items aren't just helpful—they are a part of your child’s story right now.
Tip 3: Trust the Movement "Instead of stiff posing, we keep things moving. We dance, we explore, and we embrace the natural energy of your kids. When you stop worrying about everyone sitting perfectly still, the stress disappears and the real connection shines through."
Childhood moves fast, and you deserve to be in the frame with your family. If you’re ready to document this summer with a relaxed, natural session, I’d love to help you tell your story.
